The President’s Achievers’ Awards was inaugurated eight years ago to encourage SJK (T) Year Six students to strive towards greater heights in education. It has achieved its objective to a great extent, as reflected in the outstanding results in the annual UPSR examination. The awards augment the efforts of the MIED in its mission to create an educated Indian society, including the Tamil Schools Enhancement Project which aims to improve the dilapidated condition of Tamil schools and assist in the preparation and distribution of teaching aid. The 8th Chapter of the President’s Achievers’ Award was held on 7 February 2010 at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur. YBhg. Dato’ Seri S. Samy Vellu presented RM500 and a certificate to 825 Tamil school students who had scored straight 7 A’s in the UPSR 2009 examination. Dato’ Seri S. Samy Vellu congratulated the students, their parents, the headmasters and the teachers for the excellent results achieved by the students. Along with the students, 231 Tamil school headmasters were also honored with a pewter trophy. Dato’ Seri S. Samy Vellu announced a token for 3 top schools who worked hard to achieve exemplary results in the UPSR Examinations 2009. SJK (T) Masai and SJK (T) Taman Tun Aminah, Johor each received RM 7,500.00 whereby SJK (T) Simpang Lima, Selangor received RM 5,000.00 MIED records its appreciation to Social Entrepreneurs’ Network (SENET) for presenting a bilingual dictionary (Tamil-English-Tamil) to each student this year. The President’s Achievers’ Awards event has several objectives which are: · To create a fellowship amongst performers so that young smart partnerships may emerge amongst the students. · To create special lifelong awareness in the students to enable them to realize that hard work pays in the long run. · To give special recognition to the headmasters and teachers who produce achievers. · To honor and thank parents for guiding the students towards excellence.
