..Cheque Presentation Ceremony

Dato' Seri, flanked by the Board Of Trustees, and the CEO of MIED, making a point about the importance in the new millenium.

Dato' Seri Stressing on the timely repayment of loans, so that MIED would be in a position to help more students in future.

The MIC through its educational flagship, MIED, has been tirelessly catering to changing the educational needs of the Indian students with a vision of creating an educated Indian Society.

Three cheque presentation ceremonies were held for the year 2004. MIED's first cheque presentation ceremony was held on 7th Jyly 2004 at the Netaji hall, Menara Manickavasagam. The ceremony was held under the auspices of the Chairman of MIED and also the Minister of Works, Dato' Seri S. Samy Vellu. During this presentation ceremony our chairman Dato' Seri S. Samy Vellu handed out loans, amounting to RM6,161,673.43 (602 students). In his speech our chairman stressed the importance of students paying back the loans upon completion of the studies and securing employment, so that it could be used for other deserving students. Since the establishment of MIED in 1980's, the 2004 cheque presentation ceremony was the biggest in MIED's history so far.

MIED's second and third cheque presentation ceremonies for the year 2004 were held on 8th September 2004 and 17th November 2004 respectively at Netaji Hall, Menara Manickavasagam. Both ceremonies were held on a relatively smaller scale with loans amounting to RM 3,966,222.26 (462 students) and RM 3,246,002.00 (490 students) respectively.

However, MIED stopped issuing loan application forms since August 2004 due to overwhelming request for study loans. As such, loan application forms will be issued at a date to be announced later. From Year 2005 onwards, the study loans would be allocated on a year-by-year basis and not for the whole duration of the course. For instance, if a student pursues a three year course in any discipline, the MIED would allocate study loan for the first year, and the second year must be funded by the student's parents or guardians. This arrangement has been incorporated in the study loan structure with a view to making more students avail of the loan facility. It would also mean that the further study loan for a particular student for the remaining years would be strictly based on the academic performance of the student's current year. It is also expected to inject in the parents a sense of responsibility towards their own wards.

In future, priority will be given to students who pursue courses available in TAFEs and AIMST. Students who want to pursue a degree or diploma course in a private college or foreign university in a subject that is already taught in TAFE or AIMST, would be left to mend for themselves.
